Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons butter
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/2 can (6 oz. size) tomato paste or 1½ cups tomato juice or 1 can (10 oz.) tomato soup
2 cups water
1 can (16 oz.) pinto or kidney beans
Instructions:
Brown meat, onions and garlic in butter. Season with salt and pepper.
Add chili powder, tomato paste, water and beans. Simmer 10 minutes.
If using tomato juice or tomato soup, decrease water accordingly so chili will not be soupy.
Serves 6 to 8.

Variation: Omit tomato paste and water. Substitute 1 can (14 oz.) tomatoes and 1 can (10 oz.) tomatoes and green chile peppers. Cook 1 hour or in slow cooker for 8 hours.
