Almetris Marsh Duren Memorial Challenge Grant Scholarship
The Texas Exes, the Black Alumni Network and friends and admirers of Almetris Marsh Duren, Life Member, created this scholarship to honor her life as a mentor and role model to UT students. The University honored Duren by naming the newest dorm after her. Duren Hall, located on Whitis Avenue, opened in 2007. Because of her nurturing spirit, she was fondly referred to as “Mama Duren.” The award is given to an African-American entering freshman who demonstrates academic excellence and a financial need for four years of undergraduate study. Recipients must maintain at least a 2.5 grade point average.
