Committee Chair: Sarah Schoonhoven

Sarah Schoonhoven (M.M. 2017) (she/her/hers) is a strategic event designer, project manager, and program coordinator at UT Austin, where she works to create programming for instructors at the faculty, staff, and graduate student level and strives to center the full, radical inclusion of LGBTQA+ students and instructors in her work. She also serves as the Chair-Elect of PEFSA, UT's LGBTQA+ staff/faculty association, and as the Special Events Coordinator of OUTsider Fest, Austin’s LGBTQA+ trans-media arts festival. She has previously worked in the Events and Hospitality Industry and received her Masters of Music in Music Theory at UT Austin in 2015, where she studied the electronic music soundtracks of noted Trans composer Wendy Carlos and worked in the UT Gender and Sexuality Center.


Duties of the Membership & Outreach Committee Chair

  1. Attend all board meetings
  2. Host committee meetings outside of the board meetings
  3. Communicate with committee volunteers on a regular basis
  4. Welcome new volunteers to committee via e-mail
  5. Work closely with the UT Gender and Sexuality Center and queer student organizations to ensure a network presence at major events
  6. Host Alumni Celebration following Lavender Graduation to welcome new graduates and recruit alumni and network members
  7. Help to recruit and retain new members by developing programs or processes for pulling in new members and new volunteers
  8. Ensure membership brochures and Texas Exes branded name tags are available at every event
  9. Ensure that every Network leader is a current member of the Texas Exes
  10. Promote the value of membership at events
