During her time at UT Austin, Brenda Burt served on many committees and coordinated a variety of events promoting diversity and inclusion for students, faculty, and staff. In 1984, Burt was hired as the director of undergraduate and alumni relations for the Department of African and African Diaspora Studies — a position she held for 34 years. In 2013, she became an adjunct assistant professor in the same department. The Black Alumni Network established this scholarship in honor of Brenda Burt to help undergraduate African American students in financial need.
