As a closed committee within the Texas Exes Austin Chapter Board, the Young Alumni Committee’s mission is to ease the transition from college to post-grad life by engaging recent UT alumni in the Austin area through various group activities.
Young Alumni events are designed to be opportunities for alumni who are roughly within 10 years of graduation to interact with fellow Longhorns in a fun, welcoming atmosphere. While Young Alumni events are not required to make a profit, some do contribute to chapter scholarships for Austin-area students who will enter UT the following year.
The selected members of the Young Alumni Committee are charged with creating dynamic yearly programming that will encourage community attendance and strengthen the ties of Austin alumni to the Texas Exes parent organization.
Young Alumni Committee members are expected to organize events & activities that support the mission of the committee & the Texas Exes Austin Chapter. Members can get involved in a variety of focus areas including social events, professional development events, volunteer service events, and sports & wellness events. They will also assist with other aspects of the committee such as publicity and sponsorship.
For the 2020-2021 term everyone will join a subcommittees responsible for producing our flagship programs and events:
-
Professional Development: Making your way in the “real world” doesn’t have to be so hard after college. This subcommittee is responsible for running the skill-building workshops and networking events to help young alumni find new job opportunities, build professional skills, and rub shoulders with other powerful Texas Exes.
-
Community Service: Great Longhorns always give back. This subcommittee plans service events that support the Austin community like our participation in Keep Austin Beautiful and the Trail of Lights.
-
Social Events: Alright, alright, alright! If you love planning happy hours, bar crawls, and other unforgettable social events, become one of our own “Ministers of Culture” as part of our Social Events Subcommittee.
-
Sports and Wellness: We’re baaaaaaaaaack (kinda)! If you’re someone who spends free time playing pickup sports, tailgating at the home games, managing a co-ed kickball league, or training your body and mind at the yoga studio, join this subcommittee and bring other competitive, healthy ‘Horns together to play and be well.
-
Marketing & Engagement: It’s true, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) is a Longhorn. If you’re a savvy communicator or want some real-life marketing and data experience, join this subcommittee to promote all of the Young Alumni Committee’s events in email and social media campaigns while sharing our members' feedback to improve programs.
-
Mentorship: We all get by with a little help from our Longhorn friends. If you want to help young alumni connect with more experienced Longhorns to help them grow in their careers, apply to join this subcommittee!
The Young Alumni Committee is now accepting new member applications. The application can be found here.
