Growing up, I was always eager to learn, begging my mom to drive me to the library and asking endless questions about everything. My inquisitive nature stuck with me throughout high school as I took various STEM courses and participating in engineering competitions, piquing my interest in chemical engineering. At my time at UT and in the Forty Acres Scholarship Program, I've had various opportunities to further my passions. I conducted research in silicon nanocrystals, furthering my interest in nanotech and semiconductors. Wanting to combine my love for service and engineering, I started a chapter of Global Water Brigades at UT, dedicated to creating community-led, sustainable clean water projects in Honduras. I was also the Service Chair and Vice President for Omega Chi Epsilon, the ChemE Honors Society, allowing me to engage more within the ChemE community. Due to FASP, I was able to study abroad for a semester in Edinburgh, Scotland where I had such enthralling, heart-warming experiences. As I reflect on my time at the Forty Acres, I am so grateful for the opportunities I've had to explore my interests and make an impact in my community.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program (FASP)?
The Forty Acres Scholars Program is not just a scholarship. When applying to the program, I was eager to meet esteemed alumni and receive various networking opportunities to enrich my education and develop my interests beyond the scope of college classes. However, it wasn’t until Finalist Weekend that I gained full understanding of all the benefits the program offers—studying abroad, unique lectures from professors, and a community of brilliant scholars motivated to change the world. Because of this program, I was thrusted out of my comfort zone; I explored different cultures while studying abroad in Scotland, creating a more vibrant and fulfilling college experience. I am so grateful to be a Forty Acres Scholar and all the opportunities presented to me along the way.
