Alcalde Editorial Intern
The Texas Exes, the alumni association for The University of Texas at Austin, has an opening for the part-time (10-15 hours/week), non-exempt position of editorial intern for the Alcalde magazine at $10/hour, as well as class credit if desired.
Major Job Functions
If writing about fascinating research, successful alumni, and a plethora of fun Longhorn stories sounds up your alley, come intern for the Alcalde, the official publication of the Texas Exes. Working on a fun and collaborative communications team, you’ll help us produce our bimonthly magazine, as well as content for our website. You will also assist with other organizational functions (ex: awards, archiving) as needed. You can expect a balance of hands-on involvement with multimedia production and creative assignments for print and web, often about your own story ideas. Campus life, local culture, trends, sports, books, professors, and research are all possible topics. Previous interns have gone on to work for University Marketing & Communications, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Texas Monthly, and more.
Generally, duties will include:
- Pitching, researching, and writing for the print magazine
- Pitching and writing shorter-form content for the Alcalde website
- Editing and fact-checking proofs
Requirements
- Strong writing skills, especially features
- Stellar grammar and punctuation skills
- Excellent command of AP style
- An eye for newsworthy content
- School spirit
- 1-2 days in-office preferred
