No matter the topic or area, I've always been fascinated by things and ideas. These ideas often begin as questions: How are languages formed? Why and when do people behave irrationally? What does it mean to be a good person? Questions like these attracted me to my primary high school activity: debate. Traveling around the country for debate, I had a chance to interrogate the world, trying to find answers to some of the toughest global issues while still approaching them with nuance and considering valid counterpoints to every argument. Outside of debate, I spent time giving back to my community and, through different programs, had the opportunity to work, strategize, and raise funds for a variety of service organizations and nonprofits in Houston. Coming from a longhorn family, I'm excited for everything UT Austin has to offer and ready to leave my mark on the campus and the world.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program (FASP)?
Many things about the Forty Acres Scholars Program stood out to me, especially the promise that the program would be so much more than just a scholarship check—it would be a community of active and dedicated scholars, committed to making UT Austin (and the world) a better place. Nothing showed this to me more clearly than Finalist Weekend, where scholars enthusiastically volunteered their already limited time and abundant knowledge to make all of us feel both comfortable and welcome. When I was fortunate enough to be offered a spot in the program, I knew that there was no other place or program where I would rather spend my next four years.
