As a young girl, my favorite activity was “taking care” of my dolls, an early indication I would pursue a career that involved caregiving. During adolescence and high school, I found the most joy in service projects that allowed me a relationship with those I was serving. Through peer mentoring elementary schoolers and volunteering at my local hospital, I discovered a passion for helping people feel empowered. Nursing is the perfect way to incorporate this passion with my other interest, medicine. My time thus far as a Forty Acres Scholar has afforded me countless opportunities for an enriching education and experience beyond campus. I have continued to work on service projects benefiting students on campus and the larger Austin community. Following graduation, I will be working at Ascension Seton in Austin as a cardiovascular nurse.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program?
Beyond the benefits of an academic scholarship, I was drawn to the Forty Acres Scholars Program because of genuine community it fosters among students and alumni, as well as the opportunities it provides for enriched learning and discovery. I am honored to have been selected to join this spectacular group of individuals and staff that inspire me throughout my journey at The University of Texas.
