For as long as I can remember, I have been enamored of architecture. The aspect of architecture that keeps me so excited about the field is in order to truly understand it, one must be exposed to the art, music, cuisine, traditions, etc. that inform it. From the buildings that defined settings in books and movies to the fortresses and temples of faraway places, my love of architecture has led me to pursue a deeper understanding of the world and its panoply of cultures. I am so thankful the Forty Acres Scholars Programs affords me the opportunity to continue to explore this passion at a university housing one of the nation’s preeminent architecture programs. On campus, I am a dean’s ambassador for the School of Architecture and the secretary for the School of Architecture’s Student Council. When I am not in the studio, I can be found figure skating, eating gelato, playing the flute, speaking a little Chinese or Italian, playing tennis, or listening to Chet Baker and Dinah Washington.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program (FASP)?

I was drawn to the Forty Acres Scholars Program for two primary reasons. The first reason being that The University of Texas is a large school with a high percentage of in-state students. This program provided me with a tight-knit group of students who, though from different backgrounds and fields of study, were all highly motivated, ambitious, and passionate, which gave us a common bond. It was a comfort to have that community built into my college career as an out-of-state student. The second reason I was drawn to the program was for the amazing opportunities presented to the scholars propelling us into the professional world. There are a variety of professionally focused events, all of which allow the scholars to network with leaders in their respective fields in a way that is truly unique. I knew that by becoming a Forty Acres Scholar, I would have the ability to set and reach my next set of goals in life.
